Well today started out as a pretty great day, I woke up early and checked on my social feeds had breakfast and got my lens adapter for the M200. I put the adaptor on and connected my 50mm 1.8 lens and took this photo of Reggie.
I also recently purchased the really nice images camera profile pack. This profile pack allows me to pick from about 25 or so different film stocks and it presents the colors and quality of the film stock in the raw files before you edit them. I think I prefer this method as it allows me to focus on getting the exposure and focus perfect in camera and there is little to no editing left to do in post.
Now for the bad news. Shortly after taking this photo of Reggie, I decided to take a trip up to a local shopping mall that is closing for good tomorrow. I wanted to try to capture the emptiness one last time. However, as I went to use my M200 I discovered that it would not focus. I swapped out my 50mm for the kit lens that came with the camera and with that lens the camera will not even power up. If I take the lens off and put it on the camera will power up and give me an Err 06 code. From what little troubleshooting I was capable of doing, it would appear that something shorted out in the camera and that it is no longer able to provide power to the lens to operate the AF motors.
I submitted the RMA request this morning and I’m currently waiting on confirmation so that I can ship the camera into a canon repair center. I am pretty bummed out because I just got this on the 13th and was really enjoying its small size in comparison to the T7 that I normally shoot with.
I took these two raw files and swapped the canon camera default profile for Kodak Aero chrome 16 and I really love the look. I’m sure that experts will be able to tell that it’s not actually shot on film, but I still find the colors and the tones appealing.
A family portrait of my go-to cameras obviously taken before the little guy gave out on me, he will be missed for the next couple of weeks.
Godspeed little M200, may you return to us soon!
