Today was a real struggle to find inspiration. I’ve been having some health issues and spent most of my day resting in bed. When I woke up I wasn’t sure I had the motivation to leave the house. I had considered doing more macro shots of toys/food and working on lighting and indoor exposures. I also considered just posting one of the many pictures of my Cat’s that I took today as well. I decided to take a look outside and I noticed that there was some nice cloud cover and I had been wanting to test out my ND filter. I took several shots and most of them were total garbage. Way under/over exposed or entirely out of focus. It’s surprisingly a lot harder to catch the motion of a moving oil rig and not have the sun wash out the entire photo. At least with my limited knowledge, experience, and equipment. I do want to use this location again in the future and it’s not far from my house.
I was flipping through them in lightroom when I stumbled upon this one and It actually seemed usable. None of my existing preset’s felt right so I decided to edit this one from as shot. I also went a step further and tried out the new Photoshop beta to remove a cell tower that was sticking up over the horizon and a carport that was in the midground.
This was the original photo as I shot it with my camera.
Canon Rebel T7, 50mm 1/100 at f/4.0, ISO 100 and a ND filter.
This is the shot after running it through Lightroom/Photoshop and making a few minor edits.
I think it’s pretty amazing what can be done with a few adjustments to the RAW camera data. I know that I’m probably still over saturating my colors and a lot of people don’t like that. But personally I’ve always like the vibrant over saturated look.
